Using a blue-yellow (or "blue-gold") polarizer can add interesting effects to landscapes.

The falls on a gray misty day. Just UV filter used.

Used Blue/Yellow polarizer (Cokin P173) to accentuate the green/orange colors and cut through some of the mist.

Corrected white-balance of the B/Y filtered photo using DxO.

An accurate rendition of what this scene looked like to the naked eye. A very overcast day, misty, with very little contrast. (See next 3.)

The B/Y polarizer brings out the blue of the water from its otherwise grayness and cuts through a fair amount of the mistiness. But it tends to add overall color cast to the image, even with "auto" white-balance set on the camera.

But it looks more vibrant and (somewhat) more natural with some simple white-balance correction. This was corrected using DxO, which also sharpened it a bit and corrected for the lens' barrel distortion. (Toggle between this and the last image and you can see the shape change slightly.)

Here's the final version uploaded to the main gallery. Sometimes I do very little or no edits in Photoshop. For this one, though, I tilted the horizon to be a bit more pleasing, brightened up the levels to offset the fairly dark day, and increased the sharpness just a bit.

The B/Y polarizer gives a real-estate brochure crispness to the beach condos. Before it much grayer.

Turning the B/Y polarizer to the yellow spectrum gives an entirely different, but still pleasing, feel.
